The Earth, Moon and Sun

The Earth has a satellite called the Moon which goes round it in an orbit. The Moon is smaller and lighter than the Earth and has no life on it.
As you can see from the picture, both the Earth and the Moon are big balls. We can see them because the Sun is shining on them. The Moon does not make any light of its own - it just reflects Sunlight.

Almost all of the heat and light on the Earth comes from the Sun. We need it to live.
Although the Sun looks quite small, it is actually very big - much bigger than the entire Earth. It looks small because it is a long way away.
In fact, you could fit the whole Earth inside the Sun more than 1 million times!
