Moonsaic 2 - project to assemble a mosaic of the Moon

This is a keystage 2/3 project to build a large picture of the quarter-phase Moon using a mosaic of lunar observations taken recently by the Liverpool Telescope. The whole picture actually required a mosaic of 60 telescope images. These were later combined and then split into 20 JPEG images that you can print out and reassemble at your leisure.

The Task

We will release two images each schoolday from the beginning of July 2007. This means that in 2 weeks, you could have the entire half-lit Moon stuck together and pinned on a noticeboard in your classroom. To add to the fun, each image will be a random part of the Moon, so you will have to figure out where it's from before you can stick it to any parts of the moonsaic you have already - a bit like a jigsaw puzzle.
