Moonsaic 4
Moonsaic 4 - project to assemble a mosaic of the Moon

Liverpool Telescope image of the Moon's surface
This is a keystage 2/3 project to build a large picture of the full-phase Moon using a mosaic of previously unseen lunar observations taken in February 2007 by the Liverpool Telescope. The whole picture actually required a mosaic of 106 telescope images. These were later combined and then split into 36 JPEG-format images that you can print out and reassemble at your leisure.
The Task
We will release three images every day from the 23rd June 2008, so that by the 4th July you could have the entire image stuck together and pinned on a noticeboard in your classroom. To add to the fun, each image will be a random part of the Moon, so you will have to figure out where it's from before you can stick it to any parts of the moonsaic you have already - a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. Thankfully, the images overlap a little, so you can make sure you are sticking the right pieces together.
Images for Download
As the images become available you can download them in JPEG format from the list below, but remember that they come in no particular order. Also, make sure you use the same method to print out all the images otherwise they may be difficult to fit together.
